Men's Section

September saw the conclusion of our 12 knockout competitions, though three players making it to three finals meant the mixed KO final was played on the Saturday and four other finals on the Sunday morning. Well done to all competitors.

The Chester Championships were also played in September, at Eaton GC. For the first time, the Senior and Junior championships were also held on the same day as the main championship, meaning a very late finish. Our own Club Champion Alistair Walker played two super rounds on a wet and long course to eventually finish as runner-up, 3 shots behind the winner Tom Partridge from Chester. In the Senior Championship our Club had more success with Denver Brazier shooting 77 to take the title by 3 shots. In the net Championship Brian Healey won with a net 70.

The Captain had a successful away-weekend at Blackpool in October. 12 players in total enjoyed in very warm conditions on a very wet Heron’s Reach GC. Colin Farrelly won Saturday’s singles and then won Sunday’s better-ball event with partner Rob Thomas.

We have nearly completed all this year’s Turkey competitions, but don’t forget that all prizes will be presented at the Turkey Night on December 14th. Also don’t forget that anyone playing in any Turkey competition will be entered into the famous Vicars Cross GC bottle draw.

As previously advised, as we start protecting the Course for the winter, it can no longer be guaranteed to qualify for WHS purposes. Therefore, no scores will be submitted to a player’s WHS playing record until qualifying rounds commence in the Spring. The Handicap Committee will shortly be conducting the Annual Handicap Review in line with England Golf’s WHS guidelines.

Our bunkers are also looking much better following the work of the green-staff and of course the adopt-a-bunker scheme. Those of you who signed up for this, thank you and please keep up the good work. Anyone else interested should contact Mark Flanagan.

Finally, a mention that the Senior Men’s Section will be holding it’s AGM on Monday 13th November following the Seniors Shotgun team event and brunch. All members over the age of 55 are invited to attend. There are two vacancies for the Seniors Committee
