The annual match between the ladies and men for the Macklin Shield was played on September 8th. All the matches were played in a good spirit but also very competitively. I can’t even say it was a close call as the men won all the matches. Well-played chaps but watch out next year!!
Finals Day was held on Sunday September 22nd. Unfortunately, it was a cold, wet day but all the matches were very well contested. Many thanks to the referees for officiating on the day.

The winning team in our Club qualifying round for the County “Taylor Made Competition” was Lady Captain (Eleanor Walker), Sue Fox, Natalie Osborne and they qualified for the final held at Eaton Golf Club on Sunday September 29th where they were runners up scoring 80 points, they were narrowly beaten into first place by the home team who scored 81 points. Very well-done girls.
Congratulations to Natalie who also won the putting competition.
We are now into our Christmas competitions. We look forward to upcoming activities arranged by the ladies’ section: Charity Golf & Bridge Event, Christmas Party; Bridge Drive and hope to see many of you at these events. Posters are up in the locker room and clubhouse, and I will also be emailing you all with the details.

We have now come to the end of the season for our Seniors Matches. We played 9 Matches Home and Away with the end of season curtain closer against the Ladies Section. It has been a difficult season due to the weather conditions we have had over the last 12 months. In fact, our first 2 matches against Portal and Runcorn had to be re-arranged from April and our Away match against Caldy was moved because work was being done on their course and the re-scheduled match was then cancelled due to bad weather, which was very disappointing as we know a lot of our members do like to play that course.
A total of 50 different players took part in our matches this year, which is slightly down on last year’s total of 54. Competition was very hard as we always seemed to be giving a lot of shots with this new handicap system. Certainly a number of people mentioned that the slope indexes of the Welsh clubs in particular seemed to favour their teams. Our final totals against the other clubs were Won 4 Halved 6 and lost 7 and on top of this we lost 3 matches to 2 against our Ladies. Fortunately, the weather behaved itself in October when we played a 4 Ball Greensome against the Ladies. This is the first time we have played this format in a match and everyone seemed to enjoy it and may be continued next year.
Look out for details of our matches next year and we hope to see more of you putting your names down for these matches which, whilst being competitive are always played in a friendly manner.
